Jan 15, 2023 :- Many empty seats were spotted at the annual Chinese New Year event organised by Rumah Victory in Puchong tonight, a sad sign of the dwindling support to charity homes.
My wife and I have attended this annual event for more than five years pre pandemic period. All the past events were packed with people lining up to support the event , giving away Ang pows to close to 100 old folks and orphans of the home.
But tonight we saw a marked difference. The event was over in less than 2 hours due to the small crowd of supporters . We can still recall the times when the old folks and orphans used to pile up the Ang pows they received from well wishers.
But this year, all they have was just a handful from some donors who are still able to afford the thoughtfulness. From this event, it is abundantly clear that charity homes are facing an uphill task in raising funds.
It is during such tough times that Caring Soul, a charity outfit which my wife and I founded 13 years ago, will not only continue with our help to the homes but to put in more effort to earnestly assist them in whatever way we can.
With the help of a few Caring Soul members, we distributed angpows to some 100 old folks and orphans at the event held at the Rumah Victory Elderly Home in Puchong this evening of January 15,2023.
We hope our report on the plight of the needy and the dwindling aid they are getting, will help to raise some awareness among friends and the public.
